Job Overview
The Mechanic Master will perform mechanical work at the master level of difficulty on district's yellow and white fleet vehicles in accordance with prescribed preventive maintenance schedules with emphasis on safety, cost control, and responsiveness to operational needs in order to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation with well maintained vehicles.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operation
- Performs skilled routine mechanical work on school buses and white fleet vehicles in accordance to established preventive maintenance schedules
- Maintain, repair, overhaul, and / or replace diesel and / or gasoline engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic and air brake systems, power steering systems, ignition and electrical systems, computer and electronic control systems, air conditioning and heating systems; perform tune-ups, suspension and drive train components
- Proficiently diagnose fleet vehicle issues to determine the problems through the usage of diagnostic equipment, inspection and road testing
- Respond to service calls, operate a wrecker and tow broken down vehicles
- Operate cutting and welding equipment as required
- Assigned On-Call rotation during evenings and weekends
- Act as a substitute bus driver as needed
