Position Summary
Garden Shop Sales Associates are responsible for ensuring all customers have a positive experience from the moment they enter the Nursery to the moment they leave. Garden Shop Sales Associates will greet customers, answer any questions they have (or direct the customer to another employee), and ensure the process of checking out is smooth and enjoyable while minimizing errors. Staff in this role must be able to think quickly, multi-task, and maintain a positive disposition.
Position Responsibilities:
• Greet and interact with customers.
• Consults with customers to understand their needs and preferences related to merchandise.
• Provides customers with information about products and services.
• Assists customers with purchase decisions including answering product questions.
• Informs customers about sales and discounts.
• Maintain a positive attitude towards all staff and customers.
• Process and stock product.
• Uses “Counter Point” point of sales system to complete processes such as handling transactions, exchanges and returns. Accurately and efficiently handles cash, credit/debit cards, and other forms of payment.
• Maintain accurate and organized cash drawers throughout the shift.
• Stay informed about product offerings, promotions, and special events.
• Participate in routine inventory checks and restocking activities as needed.
• Maintain a clean and orderly working environment.
• Report any issues with equipment if/when they arise.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
• Quick learner with an attention to detail.
• Effective communicator with strong conflict resolution and teambuilding skills.
• Time management and the ability to multi-task in a busy retail environment.
• Ability to anticipate customer needs and recommend appropriate products.
• Inter-personal relationship building skills with both customers and employees.
• Weekend availability/flexibility required. May require overtime during busy season.
• Bilingual a plus.
• Ability to receive and process feedback in a constructive manner highly desired.
Education and Experience:
• Knowledge of Counter Point system a plus.
• Ability to handle cash transactions accurately highly preferred.
• Experience in a retail setting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the retail space.
• Communicating with customers for the majority of the shift.
• Position will be both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Position will be exposed to frequent temperature fluctuations.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.
