MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of direct work experience.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSE).

- RESUME AND REFERENCES ARE REQUIRED**
- Implements and maintains a system of linen control for FDIHB facilities. This involves marking new linens and remarking linens which have become faded, with hospital name, logo, etc.
- Reviews use rates by in-patient/outpatient workloads throughout the hospital and conferring with users of linens to establish flexible delivery quotas for various items that vary with change in workload of use pattern. Also conducts a continuing review to maintain these quotas at an optimal level of these areas.
- Establishes and maintains an adequate linen inventory, in addition to making, altering and repairing clothing and equipment covers as needed.
- Receives clean linens from contracted laundry vendor, verifies weight, sorts and inspect linens to ensure they are of the proper quality and quantity in accordance with patient care needs.
- Monitors invoices to ensure accuracy and is within budget constraints.
- Handles day-to-day linen issues involving the contracted laundry vendor. More serious or continuous problems involving the vendor will be referred to the supervisor.
- Ensures that sanitation standards for linens handling are maintained throughout the
- delivery system of the hospital.
- Knowledge and usage of computer and software skills to coordinate department use of linen. Prepares and enters data for monthly reports, make recommendations for performance improvement. Enter daily inventory data to ensure linen accountability. Develop and maintain statistics about the circulating linens inventory, linen usage, and life expectancy. Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports concerning linen.
- Maintains and controls a supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) uniforms for appropriate members of the hospital staff.
- Receives uniforms from the laundry, inspecting them and issuing them to proper employees and recommending disposal and replacement or additional purchases to augment the inventory of uniforms.
- Modifies or repairs newborn mittens, baby blankets, adult and children’s open back gowns, lab coats, robes, orthopedic sandbags of various sizes, pillowcases, and various sizes of equipment and machine covers. These are made by copying a sample from the manufacturer or by cutting a paper sample and taking measurements for parts where necessary.
- Determines the amount of fabric needed from patterns or samples to lay out patterns, cut out parts from single or multiple layers of material, and make adjustments to assemble articles to assure desired fit.
- Performs all types of mending, patching and repairs to hospital linens such as sheets, surgical linens, bedspreads, aprons, coats (doctor’s, pharmacy, dental and smocks), tablecloths, patient gowns, robes, x-ray aprons, and various sizes of equipment and cart covers. Trims torn, ripped and worn areas to facilitate patching or mending. Replaces worn collars and cuffs as required, makes extensive alterations and repairs such as expending or narrowing chest or replacing sleeves on tailored garments.
- Assumes responsibility for cleaning and maintaining sewing machine, for keeping of cotton materials, threads, sewing machine needles and other supplies.
- Maintains a clean linen room and sewing area by disposing of all material cutting, empty thread spools, and proper disposal of broken needles.
- Coordinates with Environmental Services staff on the processing of linens. Trains and orientates record upkeep. During meetings, provide training to Environmental Services staff to explain the use of linen.
- Procurement of all linen and linen department materials and maintain a high standard of clean, fresh, and safe linen per the department and Infection Control policies. Recommends purchases of new items to manager. States quantity and quality required.
- Receives training in overall housekeeping.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
