MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years direct work experience as a laborer, equipment operator, landscaper, or similar work of a groundskeeper such as maintenance of vegetation, landscaping duties, and pesticide applications.
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSE).

Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this position and who are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation will be given primary preference in hiring and employment for this position and members of other federally-recognized Indian tribes will be given secondary preference. Other candidates will be considered only after all candidates entitled to primary or secondary preference have been fully considered.

- APPLICANT MUST HAVE A VALID, UNRESTRICTED INSURABLE DRIVER’S LICENSE **
- RESUME AND REFERENCES ARE REQUIRED **
- Serves as a groundskeeper for Tséhootsooí Medical Center, Wellness Center and Nahatadziil Health Center. Duties include the ability to trim weeds, using push type or riding lawnmower, pick up and properly dispose of trash and debris. Occasionally handles hazardous areas, cuts down or trims trees, bushes and shrubbery using axes, power chain saw or other cutting devices. Tasks require using appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).
- Maintains all field equipment (i.e., tractors, power tools, vehicles, etc.) by routine inspection and maintenance checks. All equipment must be in working condition at all times. All equipment will be cleaned and properly serviced (filled gas tank, checked oil, etc.) prior to turn-in at the end of shift.
- Performs preventive maintenance checks on all grounds keeping equipment at TMC/NDZ, identifies problems and brings to the supervisor’s attention for corrective action to be taken.
- Helps the maintenance crew when they are performing plumbing, carpentry, pipefitting, electrical or other trades and crafts type work when needed
- Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies and materials to and from trucks, by hand, hand-truck or dolly; opens crates or boxes using crowbars and cuts band using shears; stacks supplies and materials as directed; moves furniture when needed.
- Digs ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where dirt is hard and compact, does grading and sloping. Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using a shovel, hand tamper and rake, may occasionally, for a short periods of time, break up pavement or other hard surfaces with the use of a jackhammer.
- Removes snow/ice from walkways around the Tséhootsooí Medical Center, Wellness center and Nahatadziil Health Center during winter season.
- Removes weeds from sidewalks and patios, removes and cleans main entrances of the buildings, makes sure sidewalks are clear from debris.
- Re-stripes areas around the facility such as: heli-pad, fire zones, accessible areas, parking lot, etc.
- Applies chemicals, including fertilizers or pesticides.
- Performs other duties assigned.
