ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct oversight to Wellness staff when Wellness supervisors are out of the office.
- Provides leadership, mentorship and guidance to Wellness staff.
- Identifies performance improvement projects and develops and initiates needed changes with the assistance of Wellness supervisors.
- Conducts fitness consultations and/or presentations and orientates patients who fall within specific categories: low risk (those undiagnosed or free from chronic disease) to high risk (those who display multiple risk factors or are diagnosed with chronic disease, such as diabetes).
- Monitors and evaluates the progress of patients, with safety being the number one priority.
- Provides current/up-to-date exercise education/trends to patients, employees and community members.
- Retrieves and reviews patient’s medical, laboratory, and pharmacy history using the Electronic Health Record (EHR) prior to conducting the initial fitness assessment.
- Conducts clinical exercise prescription, fitness assessments, patient consultation and collaborates with healthcare providers in accordance with proper exercise guidelines.
- Completes all administrative requirements associated with each patient’s fitness program.
- Recognizes signs and symptoms of exhaustion, changes in behavior and cognitive ability during physical activity.
- Plans and facilitates group activities and/or individualized training for clients, staff, and community members in order to expand services and increase public awareness of chronic disease control and prevention.
- Promotes health and wellness initiatives via telephone, social media, and internet in addition to other communication options.
- Communicates effectively with medical health providers regarding patient’s changes in blood glucose levels, subjective limitations or concerns due to exercise and/or appropriate referrals.
- Provides consultation to professional and paraprofessional staff and to other programs at the local, tribal, state, and federal levels regarding the effects of exercise on chronic disease.
- Participates in routine records maintenance in compliance with the Privacy Act, HIPAA and FDIHB policies.
- Completes all departmental Quality Monitoring Reports and forms in order to properly track patient, program and employee progress.
- Keeps the Wellness team (Fitness Specialist/Fitness Health Techs/Wellness Aides/Medical Support Assistants) fully briefed and aware of overall gym operations, including group fitness classes, activities, programs and pertinent information related to processes and procedures.
- Understands all Wellness Center policies to ensure precaution and safety amongst all staff, patients, and members of the facility.
- Becomes familiar with reporting processes regarding safety, quality, etc. Ensures effective communication with Wellness Supervisors on all reports.
- Consistently reviews staff schedule to ensure staff coverage is maintained for daily operations.
- Assists with front desk operations which include financials, scheduling, etc.
- Conducts, completes and submits all monthly Environmental safety rounds to quality services on time.
- Assists Wellness Supervisors with completing performance reviews (Clinical, Community and Employee).
- Models healthy and professional behavior at all times.
- Plans, designs and implements safe and effective clinical exercise programs that target special population groups; provide general supervision of programs.
- Utilizes latest fitness research and medical knowledge in providing and evaluating health/fitness services.
- Researches evidenced based programs to implement for patients and community members after receiving approval from direct supervisor.
- Plans, designs, and implements fitness programs and events; establishes community partnership and collaboration for resources, data collection and evaluation methods.
- Provides a final report for all events, programs and services provided by FDIHB Wellness Department within a timely manner.
- Ensures effective communication between and among the multi-disciplinary teams to ensure timely and effective completion of event projects or campaigns.
- Consults with other member of FDIHB departments regarding clinical application and services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Three (3) years of direct work experience.
Education: Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or related field.
Certificate: Valid American Heart Association, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
Valid National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited Personal Training certification.
