STAFF PHYSICIAN (OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGIST)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, and requests/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each.
• Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes or provides treatment or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required. Bases decision upon information obtained, professional knowledge and skills and prescribed policies and procedures. Makes notes of observations to be incorporated into clinical records. Provides emergency care as required.
• Provides definitive management in all medical categories for cases that do not require referral. Gives total patient care including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services to patients.
• Performs otolaryngology surgical operations as well as advising other physicians in other services concerning otolaryngology surgical or potential otolaryngology surgical cases. When performing these operations is in complete charge of otolaryngology surgery, guiding and directing the assisting medical officers, nurse anesthetist, nurses and surgical technicians.
• Conducts outpatient clinics making observations appropriate to the outpatient’s underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient’s medications, diet, therapy course and adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as indicated. Instructs and counsels patients as required.
• Refers patients to appropriate facilities providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided on-site. Coordinates and integrates information obtained FDIHB and assures the provision of timely follow-up care as required.
• Assures preparation of appropriate medical records, accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical use. Dictates clinical reports and care to physicians, hospitals and other individuals and facilities.
• Works closely with Allied Health Professionals (Community Health Nurse, Social Workers, Health Education, etc.) in the provision of comprehensive health care services.
• Serves as a consultant to primary care physicians at FDIHB. Serves as the Otolaryngologist on call as scheduled, or when needed.
• Serves as the Otolaryngologist representative to hospital committees as assigned.
• Serves as a member of the Medical Executive Committee, Medical Staff and attends committee meetings.
• Participates in the performance improvement activities, which are coordinated with the hospital wide Performance Improvement programs overseen by the hospital quality Management committee.
• Ensures that the department and subordinate departments are in full compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) and hospital standards.
• Ability to work on regularly assigned clinical duties as an Otorhinolargyngologist. Willingness to ensure continuity of medical services on an assigned, rotation or call back basis, occasionally during evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends as determined by the department.
• Maintains appropriate and necessary continuing medical education.
• Attends designated medical staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 

No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as identified
in the education qualifications listed below.

Education:

Graduate from an accredited Medical School.
Completion of a five (5) year ACGME – accredited residency program in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT).
Board Eligible or Board Certified by an American Board in Otorhinolaryngology.

License:

Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S State or Territory.
