ELL Teacher

Job Summary: 
Under general supervision of the school principal a teacher provides a high-quality education through effective planning, delivering instruction, assessing student achievement and progress, and managing the learning environment in order to best meet the student’s academic and social-emotional needs.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilizes research based strategies to address unfinished learning.
  • Plan and deliver daily lessons aligned to state and district standards that meet students’ needs to ensure growth.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student learner differences.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects.
  • Establish and communicate clear standards of student behavior to ensure a safe, welcoming and effective learning environment.
  • Monitor student learning on a daily basis to identify areas of growth and need.
  • Build positive relationships with students and engage their families to ensure support for student growth and learning.
  • Assess student learning by using data and student feedback to inform instructional practices.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by district policy, administrative regulations and state law.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
  • Participate in required staff professional development and meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching field.
  • Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsement for subject area.
  • Interpersonal skills that exhibit friendliness, tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Knowledge of classroom technologies or willingness to acquire the required knowledge.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the daily requirements of the position.
  • Competency working in a culturally and linguistically diverse environment or the willingness or acquire these skills.
