Job Summary
The middle school activities director is responsible for the organization and scheduling of all student activities, including interscholastic athletics and academic functions for assigned middle school grade 6-8.
Essential Duties
- Collaboratively develop and serve as a steward for a vision for the overall extra and co-curricular program of the district
- Provides overall supervision of the 6-8 activities program at the middle school
- Develops schedules for all middle school athletics and activities, including officials and adult workers if needed
- Meets with the conference athletic directors to maximize the number of contests for each team
- Determines the coaching needs relative to the number of student participants
- Keeps the middle school’s activities calendar up to date
- Meets with the high school activities director throughout the year to keep an open line of communication between the high school and middle school
- Maintain a middle school athletic/activity handbook
- Ensure that all coaches/activity sponsors maintain appropriate credentials and enforce state guidelines, district policies and the rules found in the Fort Dodge Athletic/Activity Handbook
- Provide Leadership and support the continuous improvement of our coaches and sponsors
- Assist in promoting the 6-12 grade activities program among staff and students at the middle school
- Communicate with parents of students in the 6-8 grade activities program
- Work with teachers and counselors to identify students for participation in school activities that will enhance their school experience and increase their chances for success
- Keep a file of student physicals and parental approval of the Athletic Code, notifying the necessary coaches and administrators of any deficiencies
- Coordinate weekly student eligibility, notifying coaches of ineligible players
- Maintains perpetual inventory of all equipment
- After each season, keeps a record of their equipment, records to whom equipment is issued, marks the equipment properly, and repairs/cleans/replaces as needed, collects coaches records and assures equipment is properly stored/maintained in the off-season
- Assist in the evaluation of middle school coaches in accordance with existing evaluation procedures
- Works with the Transportation Department to arrange transportation to away events Sees that fields, gyms, equipment, and clocks are ready for games
- Keep accurate records of win-loss record, individual record holders, and individual participation
- Works with all Booster organizations to provide additional resources for all teams
- Forward accident reports after consultation with the coach, activity planner, students, and/or parents to the school nurse
- Opens dressing rooms, press box, and officials’ room and greets visiting coaches and officials
- Determines the ability to hold events with respect to weather
- Sees that all facilities are properly cleaned, maintained, and repaired
- Other duties as assigned
- BA Degree preferred.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Coaching Authorization preferred.
- Prior experience as an Athletics/Activities Director.
- Must possess technology skills associated with scoreboards, timing systems and scheduling.
