Job Description
The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure-track faculty position to start Fall 2025.
This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with 75% of the workload in teaching and the remaining 25% focused on service and, potentially, scholarship. This position is eligible for promotion as described in the FHSU-AAUP Memorandum of Agreement.
The teaching expectations include delivering 12 credit hours per semester of Introductory Biology courses with accompanying labs. Occasionally, the teaching assignment will also include Introductory Anatomy and Physiology with labs. While most courses are offered in-person, this position may also involve teaching Introductory Biology courses and labs online. Our new colleague will join a team of faculty dedicated to providing engaging introductory biology lab experiences for undergraduate students. This team also offers guidance and mentorship to graduate teaching assistants, who assist with lab setup and cleanup, answer undergraduate student questions during lab sessions, and collaborate with faculty to grade lab assignments. As part of the teaching duties, the individual hired for this position will be responsible for ordering teaching lab supplies, maintaining an inventory of lab equipment and supplies, and ensuring all equipment is in proper working condition.
The primary service expectations will require this person to lead and organize departmental assessments of student success in introductory lectures and labs. The person hired may negotiate part of their workload be dedicated to scholarship and / or community service.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT :
The Department of Biological Sciences has 16 full-time faculty positions representing the disciplines of anatomy, physiology, botany, ecology, microbiology, molecular biology, physiology, and zoology. The department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in biology. Graduate teaching assistants facilitate undergraduate labs; additional graduate assistantships are available through the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, and donor-supported research fellowships. In the department, several colleagues with research interests in the biomedical sciences are supported by K-INBRE funding (https : / / www.k-inbre.org / ). Available departmental research resources include microbiology and molecular biology research equipment, extensive aquatic and terrestrial sampling equipment, excellent computing and GIS facilities, outstanding technical support, large museum collections for plants, insects, and vertebrates, a tract of native prairie, a greenhouse, and other related resources. The department is housed in Albertson Hall, which includes technologically enhanced classrooms and laboratories. We are one of the only regional institutions to teach a Human Anatomy course with eight cadavers.
