The CT Technologist performs quality imaging that assists the Radiologist in diagnoses relevant to computed tomography and general radiography, while minimizing the amount of radiation delivered to the patient.
Responsibilities of this position include :
- Proficiently performs basic to advanced CT and x-ray procedures.
- Performs venipuncture and maintains venous access.
- Communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirms patient's understanding and addresses questions or concerns. Positions patients properly and selects general x-ray techniques and CT exam parameters in accordance with protocol. Administers contrast media according to protocol and responds appropriately to contrast reactions. Safely images patients to protect the patient from unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Assists, communicates, and consults with collaborating providers in an effective manner. Utilizes PACS to work collaboratively with radiologists, ensuring imaging studies are complete and assigned appropriately. Assists providers during patient procedures.
- Utilizes software programs such as PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and EMR (Electronic Medical Record) to maintain accurate and thorough patient documentation. Identifies errors in documentation and takes steps necessary to correct.
- Operates CT systems and x-ray devices (including c-arms and fluoroscopic systems) to produce quality imaging, effectively assisting physicians in procedures that require image guidance.
- Understands scheduling processes as they relate to assigned modality and works collaboratively with schedulers to ensure prompt and effective scheduling practices.
- Understands proper cleaning procedures of imaging equipment and takes the steps necessary to ensure functionality of imaging systems, deploying repair requests as necessary.
- Completes department-specific orientation and annual competencies for this position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
