The Pharmacy Buyer collaborates with the Pharmacy Director to independently lead pharmacy inventory management, including but not limited to the management of medication shortages and recalls, pharmacy purchasing contracts and compliance, waste monitoring, retention of records, drug pedigree management (Track and Trace), and reverse distribution of pharmaceuticals. They are also responsible for being the primary point of contact for the Vaccines for Children program within the hospital and the lead for assisting clinics and hospital locations in managing continuous data logging (CDL) temperature probes in all monitored areas. This role leads an annual pharmacy inventory as required by our accounting department to identify general inventory on hand. Coordinates purchasing efforts for all major vaccine purchases for the organization and is the lead coordinator for medication distribution to the health system, assisted by the rest of the pharmacy technician team.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Independently lead pharmacy buying contracts and purchasing efforts based on GPO and other established contracts for the cost-effective management of medication inventory.
Identify and actively manage of medication shortages and recalls.
Control and manage reverse distribution of medications, drug pedigree (Track and Trace), retention of records, VFC, CDLs, and other responsibilities as directed.
Lead full inventory count and identify and implement cost saving strategies.
Maintains self as point of contact for drug purchasing activities.
Collaborates with Purchasing department to maximize GPO compliance.
Perform Pharmacy Technician duties as needed.
Keeps pharmacy neat, clean and well organized.
Efficient & effective use of medical informatics systems
Contribute to the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the pharmacy.
Requirements of this position include:
High School Diploma or GED required
Associates Degree preferred
Previous pharmacy technician experience required
Previous buyer experience preferred
Must be proficient with office computer systems & mathematics.
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing with other professionals.
Experience with pharmacy information systems/technology, electronic medical records & medical informatics preferred
PTCB Certification; current WI Pharmacy Tech Registration required
