What are the responsibilities and job description for the Host/Food Runner position at Fort Jesse Cafe?
A restaurant host is an individual who greets guests as they arrive and is the last to say goodbye to them as they leave. The host’s job description includes a wide variety of tasks all contributing to the same goal: make sure our guests feel welcome from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave (a.k.a. hospitality!).
Description of Tasks:
- The host greets guests as they arrive and takes them to their seats. The host provide menus. They answer immediate questions the patrons have. They introduce the guests to their server.
- The host decides where large parties will sit in the dining room.
- When the restaurant is full the host will quote wait times to incoming parties, adds them to the waitlist, collects a contact phone number if applicable, and provide the guest with any pertinent information.
- The host coordinates with the backwaiter to ensure tables are re-set in a timely manner. The host and backwaiter should keep their eyes out for any spills or other sanitation issues in the dining room and deal with them as quickly as possible.
- As needed the host instructs servers on guest needs to ensure guests receive fast and quality service from the moment they arrive. Should a party have special needs or request accommodations, the host ensures the group's requirements are met. This may include services needed for small children, as well as for individuals with disabilities, food allergies, or birthdays.
