Purpose: The Science Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, inquiry-based lessons that foster scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in adolescent learners. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Valid Kansas Teaching License with the appropriate content-level endorsement
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in the field of education
- Three-plus years of certified teaching experience
- Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Ability to foster a positive learning environment
Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:
- Develop and implement standards-aligned lesson plans incorporating inquiry-based learning, hands-on experiments, and real-world applications
- Utilize various instructional strategies, including demonstrations, labs, group work, and multimedia resources to accommodate different learning styles
- Present complex scientific concepts in a clear, accessible manner to enhance comprehension and spark student curiosity
- Establish a positive, safe, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and respect
- Implement effective behavioral management strategies and maintain consistent discipline procedures
- Ensure all safety protocols are followed during lab activities and demonstrations
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration through interactive lessons and group projects
- Work closely with colleagues, administrators, and other stakeholders to share best practices, develop cross-curricular initiatives, and align instructional methods
- Participate in professional development opportunities—conferences, workshops, training sessions—to stay current with emerging scientific research and teaching methodologies
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and behavioral reports
- Prepare progress reports, conference documentation, and other required materials in a timely manner
- Create formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and understanding
- Track and analyze student performance data, providing constructive feedback and adjusting instructional strategies as needed
- Adhere strictly to professional ethics
- Prepare completely and adequately to carry out their responsibilities for all students within the classroom
- Perform the necessary administrative work related to the assignment, including but not limited to completion of all reports required by the District
- Attend all staff conferences and individual conferences between teacher and administrator, and is available for pupil and parent conferences, including conferences for writing IEPs and staffing for special education
- Supervise students in and around the school building, including before and after the school day, as assigned by the building principal
- React positively to change and frequent interruptions in an educational environment
- Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems
- Ensure that substitute teachers will have adequate direction and lesson plans
- Conduct tasks such as planning, grading, and parent communications
- Undertake efforts that promote professional growth in alignment with the District’s vision, mission, and goals
- Report all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect
- Observe and enforce the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district
- Attend programs designed for the involvement of parents, students, and community patrons when school is not in session, as determined by the school building administration
- Assume responsibility for keeping parents informed between grading periods when pupil performance is less than satisfactory or when performance deviates from reasonable expectations for an individual pupil
- Keep student information and records confidential
- Have regular routine attendance at work
- Carries out the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration
