The Fort Madison Community School District is searching for an outstanding, experienced educational leader to join our administrative team and become the next Elementary Principal for Fort Madison Elementary School. The successful candidate will instructionally lead the PK-6 staff.
The district is located in southeast Iowa serving 1,800 students in grades PK-12. Fort Madison Elementary School serves approximately 1,000 students who are also administratively supported by two assistant principals.
Position Overview
The Elementary Principal serves as the educational leader of the school, responsible for ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
The Principal will oversee all aspects of school operations, including curriculum implementation, staff management, student discipline, and community engagement. This role requires a dynamic leader who can inspire and support teachers, motivate students, and collaborate with parents and community members.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership and Vision :
- Develop and communicate a clear vision for the school that aligns with district goals.
- Foster a positive school culture that promotes academic excellence, respect, and collaboration.
- Designs and implements a building-level communication system that effectively meets the needs of staff and students
Visibility and Presence :
Maintain a visible presence in the school by regularly visiting classrooms, engaging with students and staff, and participating in school activities.Build relationships with students and staff to promote an inclusive and supportive school environment.Attend school events, meetings, and community functions to strengthen ties between the school and the community.Instructional Leadership :
Supervise and evaluate instructional programs, ensuring alignment with state standards.Provide support and professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance instructional practices.Analyze student achievement data to inform curriculum decisions and instructional strategies.Utilizes the Professional Learning Community (PLC) processStrong understanding of curriculum implementation, assessment, and instructional practices.Staff Management :
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff.Foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and professional growth.Delegate authority of personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of administrators.Student Support and Discipline :
Implement effective discipline policies that promote a safe and respectful learning environment.Address student behavioral issues in a fair and constructive manner.Support students' social, emotional, and academic needs through approved programs and initiatives.Community Engagement :
Establish and maintain strong relationships with parents, community organizations, and stakeholders.Communicate regularly with families regarding school events, policies, and student progress.Actively involve the community in school activities and initiatives.Administrative Duties :
Oversee school budget and resource allocation to ensure financial stability.Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local education regulations.Manage school facilities and ensure a safe and maintained environment for learning.Assumes the responsibility for the observance and implementation of Board policies and administration regulations.Serve as a member of such committees and attend such meetings as directed by the superintendent.Qualifications :
Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related educational field.Valid Iowa certification in School Administration with Evaluator Approver.Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience and experience in an administrative role, preferably in an elementary setting.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Salary : A competitive salary and benefits package with a 260-day contract
