Job Description:
Instruct participants in the fundamental skill, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
Qualifications:
- Employment as a teacher or coach with a valid Iowa Coaching Certificate or Coaching Endorsement
- Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for performing the tasks listed
- Prefer experience working with a high school track program
Responsibilities:
- Develop a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
- Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials and spectators.
- Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations as requested by the Activities Director.
- Works with assistant coaches in regards to establishing and maintaining written standards of student's behavior and ensures proper student supervision.
- Cooperate and communicate with parents; organizes parents' night, banquets, awards nights and pep assemblies.
- Promote all activities in the school program attempting to foster school spirit
- Show an interest in athletes in off-season activities and classroom efforts
- Be prompt and organized
- Provide leadership that produces positive attitudes and results
- Reports to Activities Director
Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.
