Social Worker-Jr/Sr High School

The School Social Worker is responsible for addressing students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs in a school setting. They act as a liaison between students, families, and the school community, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to succeed academically and socially. The School Social Worker will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to create a positive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Evaluation:

• Conduct assessments to identify students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
• Develop and implement individualized intervention plans based on assessment findings.
  
  

Counseling And Support

• Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional or social difficulties.
• Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation among students.
  
  

Crisis Intervention

• Respond to crises involving students, providing immediate support and resources.
• Work with families and community resources to connect students in need with appropriate services.
• Excellent problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
  
  

Collaboration

• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to address students' needs.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and interventions.
• Ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
• Work collaboratively with other care providers in the school within a multi-tiered system of support to address student needs.
  
  

Advocacy

• Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school and community.
• Assist families in navigating school systems and accessing resources.
• Understanding of cultural competency and diversity in the school environment.
  
  

Education And Training

• Provide training and workshops for teachers and staff on social-emotional learning and mental health awareness.
• Educate students and families about available resources and support services.
  
  

Documentation And Reporting

• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, interventions, and progress.
• Prepare reports for school administration and relevant stakeholders as needed.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  
  

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Social Work (MWS) with State of Iowa license
• BOEE State of Professional Services and BOEE Statement of Professional Recognition
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge of social-emotional learning, mental health issues, and community resources
