Position: Infection Preventionist
Type: Full-Time
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control (IPC) policies and procedures.
- Conduct ongoing infection surveillance, analyze trends, and report findings to leadership.
- Lead staff training programs on infection prevention protocols and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and regulatory standards for infection control.
- Serve as a resource for outbreak investigations and manage infection-related incidents.
- Collect and utilize IPCP data to formulate conclusions and develop action plans.
- Identify reservoirs, incubation periods, periods of communicability, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, and susceptibility associated with the infectious disease process.
- Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Differentiate between colonization and infection.
- Differentiate between prophylactic and therapeutic uses of antimicrobials.
- Plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Maintain knowledge of current state and federal regulations and clinical standards of practice that are relevant to the IPCP.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the facilitys IPCP and antibiotic stewardship program to include policies and procedures for surveillance, pandemic preparedness, hand hygiene, standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, employee health, outbreak management, water management, antibiotic stewardship, and training.
- Conduct routine environmental rounding to identify risks to the IPCP, e.g., laundry collection methods, disposal of waste, cleaning and disinfection of equipment, and maintenance of sanitary conditions.
- Conduct outbreak investigations.
- Report communicable diseases to local, state, or national agencies as required.
- Manage the processes related to resident immunizations.
- Maintain IPCP records.
- Collect and report data to the CDCs National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
- Round with provider for weekly wound rounds
- Complete weekly wound assessments
Qualifications:
- Current RN license in Iowa
- This position is part of our nursing management team, on-call every fourth weekend is required.
- Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) or willingness to obtain within a specified time.
- Experience in long-term care or healthcare infection prevention and wound care preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of CDC guidelines, CMS regulations, and other relevant infection prevention standards.
