REPORTS TO: Medical Center Director

DEFINITION/PURPOSE:

Provide medical care, including diagnosis and treatment to patients of the Wassaja Memorial Health Center ensuring quality and appropriateness of medical care provided at both the clinic and by outside vendors. The Clinic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Clinic, Pharmacy and Community Health staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:

Examines patients to determine nature of all illness/problem; order and evaluates medical tests; orders and prescribes medicines and treatments appropriate to clinical diagnosis; assesses treatment results and determines success of treatment; monitors patient progress; consults with other health care professionals; responds to requests from families to provide information and assistance; provides medical and treatment education and information.

Responds to outside requests for patient information; writes referral letters; and provides medical consulting advice to other health care professionals; participates in the drafting and review of clinic department policies and procedures; recommends medical related training of staff.

The Clinic Supervisor provides leadership and guidance to staff, to ensure quality of care, compliance with regulations and efficient operation of clinic services within WMHC.

Participation in Performance Improvement Committee and other committees as assigned by the Medical Center Director.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of medical diagnosis, treatment and prescribing drugs;
• Knowledge of accreditation and performance improvement requirements and duties;
• Knowledge of available medical services and programs;
• Knowledge of current medical research techniques and sources utilizing books and electronic research systems;
• Knowledge of appropriate documentation and electronic record charting;
• Skills in assessing and diagnosing complex medical conditions and related symptoms;
• Skill in applying medical treatment plans to individual cases;
• Skill in effectively and efficiently managing a high patient care cases load consisting of a variety of medical situations;
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with health center colleagues, departments of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation , Indian Health Services, other local, state and Federal agencies, contractors, vendors, patients, their families and other interested parties.
• Skill in working with members of the American Indian population and other diverse backgrounds.

MINIMUM QUALLIFICATIONS:

1)Degree: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent from an accredited school in the United States 2)Applicants must possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license as a Physician from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States 3) Certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in a primary care specialty 4) Current unrestricted Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Controlled Substance Registration Certificate licensed to prescribe drugs by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency 5) CPR certified 6) Minimum of (3) years experience as a practicing physician in a clinic or hospital environment 7) Experience with, and sensitivity to, health care in Native American communities and/or minority health issues 8) Current AZ drivers license with no restrictions and meet FMYN insurance standards.
