Qualifications:
- A valid certificate to practice as a Special Education Teacher as required by the South Carolina Department of Education with a minimum of 5 years of special education teaching experience preferred.
- Master’s Degree Preferred.
- High moral and ethical standards.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Effective presentation and communication skills
- Experience working with adult learners
- Belief in and respect for the dignity and work of each individual; sincere interest in children and youth.
Reports to: Senior Executive Director of Special Services
General Job Description: To serve as an instructional support for special education teachers, assistants, and students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and monitor special programs for operational effectiveness and make changes or recommendations for improvement related to instruction, classroom management, content knowledge, compliance, and assessment.
- Support the professional growth of colleagues in the work of best practices, instructional strategies, and research-based curriculum
- Serve as a liaison between district personnel and special services staff
- Participate in special consultations and case conferences with special services personnel
- Maintain uniformity among district-wide procedures
- Conduct regular instructional coaching cycles and IEP compliance reviews.
- Provide one-on-one support and serve as a resource for special education teachers new to the profession and/or District in conjunction with Special Services Administration
- Provide ongoing professional development around curriculum and IEP development
- Assist with coordinating and leading Professional Learning Team Meetings.
- Solicit and analyze data to determine students’ needs, guide instruction, differentiate instructional curriculum and plan for professional development
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Executive Director of Special Services
Terms of Employment: |
190-day contract. Salary determined by placement on district teacher salary schedule and board-approved annual supplement |
Evaluation: |
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel. |
