Description

Harbor's Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare / private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a highly qualified Clinical Education Specialist to join our team in delivery of excellent care for our residents. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support) with a passion for working with an elderly population. This position is responsible to oversee organizational Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Risk Management efforts. Ensure continual organizational regulatory readiness requirements including areas such as Medicare and HIPAA. Comply with facility policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Ensure that appropriate risk management precautions and measures are identified, put in place, trained against, regularly monitored, and updated as needed. Exceptional skills to identify clinical staff training needs, design, deliver high quality training for professional development, adapt curriculum as needed, monitor progress, and maintain appropriate records. Ensure high level of competency in clinical procedures, policies, and best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plan, direct and execute comprehensive staff training and compliance programs. Assess individual licensed staff for skills competency. Identify skill gaps and prepare actions to address to include comprehensive training materials, checklists, lesson plans, internal and external resources, hands on demonstrations and simulations, and ensure accurate record keeping. Provide input on budgeting for clinical education development to the Director of Nursing (DON).
  • Plan, direct and execute compliance and quality assurance audits in Health Services. Direct efforts of internal and external staff to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, community policies and procedures, and industry best practices. Initiate programs to ensure continual survey-readiness.
  • Oversee Medicare, HIPAA, and Compliance program. Evaluate effectiveness of efforts and recommend adjustments to current practices or programs. Consistently maintain current knowledge of regulations.
  • Oversee Quality Assurance program including risk management assessments and corrective programs. Monitor progress and adjust focus areas as needed. Coordinate projects and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain current training topics, comprehensive training materials, delivery methods, and record maintenance. Ensure training equipment and materials are consistently in good working order, up to date, readily accessible, organized and neat.
  • Ensure all clinical departments, administrative, inspection, and regulatory procedures and requirements are appropriately followed in accordance with established safety, health, infection prevention, hygiene, and appearance policies and guidelines.
  • Participate in a variety of organizational projects (e.g., Electronic Health Records project, etc.) sharing expertise on clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and licensed staff accountabilities. Create training programs to include internal and external staff supporting implementation.
  • Provide observations, recommendations, and reports to the DON as needed. Develop, maintain, and provide draft policy and procedure updates to DON for approval and implementation.
  • Participate in surveys / audits and development / execution of correction plans. Act as resource to other departments in quality assurance and compliance efforts.
  • Oversee clinical aspects and compliance for new employee orientation for all staff, in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Assist Human Resources in placing licensed / certified clinical staff in alternative / light duty work assignments, as well as ensuring active clinical employees' required licensure and certification are current.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships and positive communication with management, teams, and staff, as well as external partners.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to clinical staff through individual and team coaching sessions, and feedback on performance.
  • Model service excellence and serve as an effective resource for appropriate guidance, knowledge, and information.
  • May work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions as needed. Provide weekend, holiday, and evening on-call and assisting with staffing as needed. Expected to report to work on time and work the full established schedule.

    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS :

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. College courses in management and / or business strongly preferred.
  • Current, unencumbered LPN license in the state of Virginia.
  • Active certifications : BLS, CPR, AED, Infection Preventionist (may obtain upon employment).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively related nursing, training, and organizational development experience in positions which require in depth knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations, preferably in a CCRC environment.
  • Prior experience in a long-term care setting preferred, with a strong focus on safety and high quality healthcare delivery including effective management of projects and deadlines across departments and disciplines.
  • Quality assurance, compliance, and risk management experience.
  • Accountability for development, success, continuous improvement of comprehensive staff training programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care, medical terminology, and medical records. Technical skills assessment and documentation skills. Supervisory and training skills, to include documentation / writing skills, staff orientation and training. Moderate to a high level of proficiency in software programs (e.g., PowerPoint, Word, and / or related medical documentation programs).
  • Ability to effectively provide effective training to large, diverse teams in a CCRC environment.
  • Excellent leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication, serve as role model for service excellence, and able to work effectively as a knowledgeable resource, member of the team, and independently.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, observation skills, organizational and time management skills, business acumen, high self-initiative, and ability to accurately follow and deliver verbal and written directives in a timely manner.
  • Skilled at working with the elderly population in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion. Perform duties with consideration for residents' rights at all times, demonstrating integrity and confidentiality in the care of residents.
  • Knowledgeable with safe and appropriate use of medical supplies, equipment, sterilization processes, medication administration, and patient care.
  • Ability and competence to operate computer, applicable software programs including scheduling and Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and other standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, stationary positions at certain times during the workday, walk, move about the facilities inside and outside, ascend / descend stairs, reach, turn, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance, maintain body equilibrium to prevent falls, reach overhead, grasp with both hands, fine manipulation, coordination, and repetitive motion.
  • Able to frequently exert up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) and / or lift up to 25 lbs. (unassisted) to move objects. Must physically be able to carry, transfer, push and pull, and reposition residents with assistance or using appropriate equipment.
