This experienced and results-driven professional will be responsible for leading the day to day operations of the electric and gas utility systems of Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA). As a critical member of the leadership and operations team, this position is responsible for overall management, engineering and planning for the ongoing reliable, efficient and cost-effective operations of the electric and gas utilities and assisting the Director of Utilities (DOU) with power supply, purchase of power and gas for resale. This position reports to the Director of Utilities (DOU).

Direct the overall operations and strategic planning for the electric and gas systems.
Effective, timely, clear and concise communications of company business; accountability for administering FPUA Board approved policies and procedures.
Assess the competitive position in relation to the current and expected future business environment and plan for the long-term success of the organization in order to maintain consistent profitable operations and to meet the mission statement of FPUA.
Manage the efforts of the organization to achieve consistent, predictable and adequate expenditures in accordance with agreed-upon objectives.
Direct activities of the two systems for the planning and implementation of long-term expansion and redevelopment programs.
Plan, organize, and direct the functions and operations of FPUA Electric & Gas Engineering, Electric Transmission & Distribution, System Operations and Gas Operations Departments.
Fair, timely employee evaluations done for all employees; and the professional development of employees within the supervision of the incumbent.
Comply with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards requirements, Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) reliability standards requirements, and all FPUA reliability standards.
Provide leadership support for electric and gas rates development, power cost and purchased gas cost recovery and rate applications, charges and collections as they relate to the successful operation of the systems
Provide leadership support to electric & gas systems in the planning, design, operation, construction, maintenance and repair of the electric & gas systems.
Direct engineering, technical forecasting and planning efforts. Review and approve specifications, plans and studies relating to planning, power supply needs, gas supply and construction projects and programs. Make technical investigations related to, and directs the development and preparation of, plans and specifications for construction in the electric & gas systems.
Provide leadership to adhere to all necessary safety protocol including compliance with local, state and federal permit requirements for electric & gas systems and personnel.
At the discretion of the DOU, represent FPUA as an alternate to interlocal agencies such as American Public Power Association, Florida Municipal Power Agency, Florida Municipal Energy Association, Florida Gas Utility and other related industry agencies to the extent possible for cost-effective power & gas operations and supply for the respective systems; to the Florida Regional Electric Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) to assure compliance with NERC and FRCC reliability requirements.
Direct the professional development of electric & gas systems personnel including accountability for effective, timely, clear and concise communications; adherence to Board-approved policies and procedures; and fair and timely interactive employee evaluations.
Perform other work assignments, tasks and projects as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of Utilities. Perform as acting Director of Utilities upon request.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology in electrical, mechanical, civil or related engineering discipline. Five (5) years progressively responsible engineering, supervisory and management experience in the planning, design, operation and maintenance of electric power systems and gas systems.
Registration as a professional engineer in the state of Florida is required or the ability to obtain within 12 months of date of hire.
When considering new job applicants, a comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Valid Florida driver's license is required.

Considerable ability to determine long-range needs for the electric and gas systems and to plan and organize work for the efficient accomplishment of such objectives.
