What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substation Relay SCADA Technician position at Fort Pierce Utilities Authority?
Salary assigned will be commensurate with experience.
Highly skilled technical work in the operation and maintenance of high voltage substations and SCADA Computer System. Works under the general supervision of the Electric Transmission and Distribution Superintendent but often has to work independently in complex situations and supervises a one or more person crew (when serving as person in charge).Position reports directly to Electric T&D Superintendent.
Considerable knowledge and judgment to work safely under stressful situations in high voltage conditions while alone, or as a crew leader.Considerable skills in the use of specialized high voltage tools and equipment such as; hot sticks, shotgun sticks, insulated rubber goods, and gloves, etc.
Thorough knowledge in the principles and theory of electrical and electronic circuitry, both AC and DC.
Considerable knowledge in mathematics with the ability to solve formulas related to electrical theory such as; relaying and metering.
Considerable knowledge in the use of a wide variety of test equipment such as; breaker analyzers, dielectric tester, micro-ohmmeter (ductor), TTR test set; relay test set, and basic VOM's, clamp on amp meters, etc.
Considerable knowledge and ability to understand and prepare schematic diagrams and blue prints.
Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with fellow employees.
General mechanical skills and knowledge of basic mechanical tools and equipment.
Considerable knowledge in the use of computers and computer theory.
May require announced or unannounced overtime work and the ability to respond to call-out work during non-working hours or emergencies.
Will be subject to random drug testing per DOT regulations and FPUA rules.Graduation from an accredited high school with courses in math and science. Satisfactory completion of an approved training course in electronics and/or electricity from one of the following: military, trade school or college, with four years experience in substation maintenance, relay testing and SCADA Computer Systems.
When considering new job applicants, a comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
An appropriate valid State of Florida Operator's License with the ability to obtain a Class "A" CDL within three (3) months of date of hire. CDL License needed sparingly for emergencies.(NOTE: There are also secondary functions, which the employee will be required to perform.)
May be responsible for planning the routine day-to-day workload.
Perform complex switching to move power safely within and between distribution and transmission substations with voltages in the 13kv through 138kv range.
Perform operational tests and maintenance on transformers, breakers, regulators and other substation equipment.
Comply with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards requirements, Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) reliability standards requirements, and all FPUA reliability standards.
Conduct tests for the proper operation of all protective relaying schemes for equipment and buses.
Use a wide variety of complex test equipment in trouble shooting procedures and testing equipment for proper operation.
Tests and calibrates a variety of relays, meters, transducers, tone equipment, battery charging systems and other electronic/electro-mechanical equipment.
Maintains, tests, and calibrates the Utility Authority's main metering installations for importing power.
Tests, installs and maintains the SCADA Computer System both master and remote stations and the U.P.S. system supplying the master.
Perform routine station inspections and files reports.
Update blueprints and schematics to an "as built" status along with a variety of other record keeping duties.
Installation and maintenance of fiber optic lines and related equipment at substations.
Assist other departments with their more complex systems such as; Power Plant Relaying, Water Plant Transformers, Wastewater Plant Relaying, Energy Services Center fire alarm, security and back-up generator and all SCADA users.
