What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spanish Interpreter Paraeducator/Cafeteria para position at Fort River?
The Amherst and Amherst Regional Public Schools are currently seeking applicants for a 50% Spanish Interpreter Paraeducator/ 50% Cafeteria Para. This is a full time FTE and school-year position.
The role of the bilingual interpreter paraeducator is to interpret instruction into a student’s native language and/ or cultural context to make content accessible to the student while they are learning English.
Bilingual interpreter paraeducators support students in work completion, classroom participation and other learning tasks, in consultation with the classroom teacher. Candidates must be flexible, responsible, maintain confidentiality, work effectively as part of a team, and take initiative to meet the needs of English learners at school. Responsibilities include:

Provides classroom support through interpreting and translating instruction and information introduced by the teacher into students’ native language.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and develop instructional supports and strategic use of native language supports.

Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment, including reinforcing and supporting student academic and/or behavioral plans.

Collaborates and works harmoniously with all other members of the ELL and school staff toward the successful development of the ELL program.

Works effectively with a diverse population of students and families within a multi-cultural school community

Highly effective oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Ability to interpret/ translate in both directions, and provide outreach support to families for incidental needs and basic communications.
