USD 234 is hiring for a Piano Accompanist for the Middle and High School Music Departments for the Fall 2025-2026 school year.
The primary responsibility is to play piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performances of choirs, ensembles, and soloists, working closely with the music director(s) to support student learning and musical development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accompaniment:
Provide piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performances of vocal and instrumental ensembles. - Music Preparation:
Read and interpret musical scores to prepare accompaniment parts, potentially including transposing music as needed. - Collaboration with Music Director(s):
Work closely with the music director(s) to ensure accurate and musically supportive accompaniment. - Student Support:
Assist students with individual practice by providing accompaniment and feedback on their performance. - Performance Support:
May be involved in preparing students for concerts, solo performances and/or competitions by providing accompaniment.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Advanced Piano Skills:
Demonstrated proficiency in piano playing, including sight-reading, technical ability, and musical interpretation. - Music Theory Knowledge:
Strong understanding of music theory concepts like key signatures, chord progressions, and rhythmic patterns. - Accompaniment Skills:
Experience in providing accurate and supportive accompaniment for various ensembles and vocal styles. Must be able to follow a conductor and read open scoring.
Flexibility:
Willingness to adapt to changing needs and musical styles within the school's program. Must be available for performances outside of the school day as well as preparation and practice time.
