What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Horse Wrangler position at Fort Union Ranch?
The Fort Union Ranch is a 95,300-acre cattle ranch in northeastern New Mexico. It is one of the largest, longest owned cattle ranches in the country, set on the Santa Fe trail. Each summer the ranch engages two wranglers aged 20 or over to assist family groups of up to 12 people of all ages with horseback riding activities, and to assist with other ranch projects as required. Wranglers report to the family program supervisor. The season lasts from mid/late May to late August.
Successful wranglers are physically active, self-reliant, adaptable, and safety-oriented individuals with both excellent people skills and solid equestrian backgrounds. As guests’ primary points of contact with the ranch, wranglers must have the ability to educate visitors about ranch operations while providing outstanding outdoor experiences.
The job requires daily care of 20 horses, guiding groups on horseback rides, and various ranch chores in the afternoons.
