JOB SUMMARY
This position directs the university's student athletic programs and activities.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the department.
- Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Prepares budget requests and manages assigned budgets.
- Coordinates fundraising activities, including the activities of support/booster groups.
- Coordinates and approves team schedules.
- Monitors student eligibility for sports.
- Directs marketing and promotional activities.
- Establishes travel policies and procedures for sports teams.
- Prepares and implements strategic plans for the department based on the university's mission and goals.
- Serves as college liaison to national and regional sports organizations.
- Teaches courses in the incumbent's area of specialty; performs other academic duties and activities.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics.
- Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of fundraising strategies.
- Knowledge of strategic planning principles.
- Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The President or the president's designee assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include NCAA rules, University System of Georgia policies, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application. This position develops department guidelines.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied management and supervisory duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to direct the university's athletic programs. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office, in sports facilities, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over Coordinator of Student Success/SWA (1), Director of Sports Information (1), Athletic Trainer (1), Recreational Activities Coordinator & Head Tennis Coach (1), Head Women's Basketball Coach (1), Head Men's Basketball Coach (1), Head Men's and Women's Cross Country & Track & Field Coach (1), Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach (1), Softball Coach (1), and Head Football Coach (1).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree, (required)
- Over five years of related experience required.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in a related field.
