FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Head Athletic Trainer.

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for providing care to intercollegiate student-athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and oversee all training-related activities for the FVSU Athletic Department and its teams, ensuring the effective management of athlete care.
- Coordinate engagement with the team physician and other medical practitioners to manage injury prevention, immediate care, and rehabilitation for Fort Valley State University student-athletes.
- Enforce policies and procedures for the athletic training facilities and the FVSU Department of Athletics.
- Provide athletic training coverage and supervision for intercollegiate athletic teams during practices, games, and strength and conditioning sessions as assigned.
- Coordinate physical exams and ensure completion of pre-participation paperwork for student-athletes through the team physician or designee.
- Perform specific portions of the physical exam under the direction and supervision of the team physician.
- Apply taping, bracing, and other protective/supportive devices as necessary to prevent or mitigate injuries.
- Monitor environmental conditions at practice and game sites, recommending safety measures to protect student-athletes, in line with accepted guidelines.
- Refer student-athletes to appropriate medical professionals (physicians, physical therapists, nutritionists, and other allied health experts) for medical evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, following standard procedures and orders.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records.
- Be familiar with and follow emergency action plans for all athletic venues.
- Educate student-athletes on the FVSU Athletic Department's Drug Testing and Counseling program.
- Provide health-related education and counseling to student-athletes and coaches.
- Direct student-athletes and coaches to appropriate professionals for consultation on social, personal, and health matters, when needed.
- Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
- Adhere to all written policies and procedures of FVSU, the Department of Athletics, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and any relevant conferences or associations.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master's degree in athletic training from an accredited program.
- Current certification from the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (BOC).
- Experience as a certified athletic trainer, with a strong background in supervisory or leadership roles within athletic training settings.
