JOB SUMMARY:
A Research Assistant position will assist faculty members in their ongoing laboratory and field research related to analyzing food components, including running various lab and processing equipment, troubleshooting analytical lab instruments, maintaining service contracts, and assisting undergraduate/graduate students in their research projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist undergraduate/graduate students conducting research in food analytical lab.
- Conduct to prepare and process food products and to analyze samples for analyzing bioactive components.
- Assist in procuring laboratory materials and supplies and maintain lab instruments and their service contracts.
- Conduct experiment, collect and analyze data, including statistical analysis.
- Conduct other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.S. in Biological/Agricultural Sciences from accredited university.
- Knowledge of food analysis and chemistry in food quality and food functional properties.
- Experience in general lab and analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, and GC-MS, etc.)
- Must have effective written and oral communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team-based environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Full time 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, occasionally weekend work in lab, field, and processing rooms may be required.
- Work is primarily done indoors in food lab and processing room.
- Operate and drive state vehicles.
- Occasional travel required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasionally lifting to 50 pounds, standing, climbing, kneeling.
- Exposure to laboratory chemicals.
