What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at FORT WAYNE - ALLEN COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY?
Duties and Responsibilities
- Second shift position - Monday through Thursday in summer months and Monday through Friday in winter months
- Operates the airport fleet repair shop; services and repairs all airport vehicles including many specialized pieces of equipment including snowplows, snow blowers, sprayers, public safety vehicles, sand spreaders, mowers, tractors, and many other items, both small and large;
- Prepares and recommends annual fleet repair budget
- Experience with A/C systems and BUS diagnostics skills
- Fabricates special equipment
- Performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles on a scheduled basis;
- Installs accessory equipment oversee and directs assigned personnel;
- Maintains tool and work areas in a clean and orderly condition;
- Performs duties in accordance with the airport's safety rules and operating regulations and practices;
- Maintain complete parts inventory’ ordering of materials and supplies;
- Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions;
- Assists in the training of other employees;
- Assists employees of equal or higher classification;
- Performs general airport maintenance,
- Operates snow removal equipment and perform snow removal duties as required.
- Keeps records, purchases, and stocks mission critical spare parts for the equipment used at the airport;
- Create, maintain, and update a comprehensive preventive maintenance /m schedule for all airport equipment.
- Provide input for long term vehicle replacement program to include end of life, replacement & acquisition of fleet vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel engine heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Ability to maintain records for vehicles, spare parts, maintenance schedules;
- Ability to oversee the work of others;
- Ability to learn airport operations related to on airfield driving and communications.
- Knowledge of airport fire trucks operation, repair & regulations of operation.
