QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to:
- Graduation from high school and two years law enforcement, security or closely related experience. Must have strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Incumbents must possess knowledge of the methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials and equipment used in assigned field.
- Must be either an active or retired law enforcement officer, an Allen County reserve police officer, an active duty Fort Wayne Fire Fighter.
- Incumbents must possess a valid Indiana Driver's License.
- Must be able to transport self to district buildings and other locations as required.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Patrol and supervise campus activities to assure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors at designated locations during assigned shifts. Investigate incidents and assure student compliance with local, state, federal laws, school and district rules, policies and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Patrol and supervise campus, assuring students are safe, orderly, secure and within supervised areas; monitor lunch areas, hallways, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, grounds, classrooms and adjacent areas; assure safety and security of staff, the public, and private and school property, buildings and grounds.
2. Enforce and assure student compliance with local, state and federal laws, and school and District rules, policies and regulations; respond to complaints from students, teachers, parents and others; investigate, deter, identify and report unusual, suspicious or criminal activities; prevent or break up student conflicts and fights.
3. Confer and collaborate with administrators, faculty and staff concerning student behavior, security, safety and enforcement activities; interview students, staff and others concerning incidents; report incidents involving students and the public to appropriate staff or administrator.
4. Escort and direct authorized visitors to desired destinations; provide general information and assistance; assure non-students on campus are authorized visitors; escort unauthorized visitors off campus.
5. Provide support for school staff, faculty and administrators in maintaining proper student discipline; locate and escort students to and from administrative offices as needed; refer students to administrative offices for various infractions as appropriate.
6. Monitor campus for illegal activity; investigate and report instances of graffiti and vandalism; search for and confiscate illegal possessions as directed; provide information to, confer with and assist law enforcement agencies concerning legal matters involving students; arrange for, assist with, file and submit police reports as needed.
7. Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards to appropriate personnel; respond to emergency situations as needed; assist with the implementation of emergency preparedness plans as directed.
8. Maintain routine records related to incidents and daily activities; prepare and process various forms.
9. Lock and unlock doors and gates as appropriate.
10. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.
DRESS AND EQUIPMENT:
All Security Officers will wear their issued uniform.
