Position Purpose

Assists directing and managing the overall implementation of the Leadership Academy Network (LAN) Literacy and Instructional Initiatives. Assists with leadership of the campus instructional program ensuring high standards of instruction and student achievement at the Elementary and / or Secondary levels for the LAN.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instructional Leadership and Program Management

  • Encourages and supports development of innovative instructional programs, participates in program evaluation measures, and makes suggestions for improvement where needed.
  • Implements state, LAN, and / or District curricula and assessments aligned with state standards.
  • Monitors and ensures high-quality instruction practices among teachers and staff that improve student performance.
  • Monitors multiple forms of student data to inform instruction and intervention decisions to maximize student achievement.
  • Reinforces expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom management.
  • Assists with monitoring Professional Learning Communities that create positive relationships with teachers and administrators while fostering a team culture of open sharing, risk taking and shared leadership, to work effectively as a team.
  • Assists in recruiting, selecting, placing, mentoring, and retaining diverse and highly effective teachers and staff.
  • Coaches and develops teachers and staff, by giving individual feedback and aligned professional development opportunities.
  • Provides clear expectations of performance, using multiple data resources.
  • Oversees reporting and monitoring, of student attendance, grading, and achievement.
  • Works with department heads and faculty to compile budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Complies with District policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
  • Assists with developing and using information systems to maintain records, and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards Practices for Texas Educators in such a way that it demonstrates a moral imperative to educate all children and follows practices and procedures of the District.

Collaboration

  • Encourages staff involvement in the decision-making process.
  • Proactively seeks and acts on feedback, reflects on personal growth areas, seeks development opportunities and changes practice in ways that improves student outcomes.
  • Communicates with all audiences and develops productive relationships.
  • Takes a leadership approach to planning activities, outlines and tracks clear goals, tracks targets and strategies to ensure attainment of the school’s mission and goals.
  • Participates in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Collaborates with District staff to implement District policies, and advocates for the needs of District students and staff.
  • Aligns resources with the needs of the school, and effectively monitors the impact of these resources on school goals in support of the LAN ACE Model, and assists with fiscal oversight of all campus budgets as it relates to Literacy Initiatives, curriculum and instruction.
  • Maintains a shared vision of high expectations for all students and staff, including stressing the importance of daily attendance of both students and staff.
  • Safety

  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of elementary and / or secondary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of federal and state guidelines and District policies and procedures regarding special population students’ services and programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of literacy instruction.
  • Skill in judgment and creativity in decision-making; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Skill in monitoring / assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Skill in public relations, communications, and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to consider academic, social, and emotional needs of students in making decisions about academic settings and accommodations for individual students.
  • Ability to differentiate instructional support for experienced and new teachers.
  • Ability to develop and implement plans in all areas of the instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement projects that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures relating to District operations.
  • Ability to use qualitative and quantitative data to make decisions about teaching and learning including student and teacher assessment.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Travel Requirements

  • Travels to school district and LAN buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office and classroom equipment, including Promethean Board, computer and peripherals.
  • Posture : Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing / pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting : Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment : Works in an office setting; works irregular and / or prolonged hours
  • Attendance : Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands : Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
  • Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education : Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a directly related field required. Degree in School Administration preferred.
  • Certification / License : Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification required for in-state applicants. Out of state applicants must be currently certified from another state, attach a copy of your valid certification and become Texas Certified prior to being hired T-TESS and T-PESS Certification required if hired
  • Experience : 3 years successful teaching experience required; 2 years of Administrative experience required; 2 years of Data Analyst or Instructional Coach experience preferred; 2 years of Literacy experience preferred; Experience in inner-city schools with diverse populations preferred.
  • Language : Bilingual proficiency (English / Spanish) preferred in some settings.
