Position Purpose
Configures and supports the District network switches, collaboration devices, and wireless access points. Collaborates with other District teams to resolve network issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Installs and configures campus network electronics (switches, wireless, collaboration and telecommunications head-end equipment).
- Monitors and manages allocation of high value resources such as Internet Bandwidth and Core Network electronic performance.
- Manages the design, integration, and deployment plan for changes to the District Wide Area Network (WAN), including IP Address allocation and routing functions.
- Assists other departments with the design and implementation of IT resources.
- Works closely with structured cabling team to support the District network infrastructure.
- Prepares switches for install at Fort Worth ISD facilities.
- Works cooperatively with other departments to ensure a reliable and dynamic computing environment for students and staff.
- Travels to different campuses and administrative locations within the FWISD geographical area and works to improve network responsiveness and uptime.
Performance
Creates and maintains documentation and diagrams of the District WAN and LAN.Performs network specialist tasks; writs network device configuration scripts into network change documentation, and implements those network changes to meet District goals and deadlines.Plans and schedules system updates, and tracks completion.Communicates in advance about network changes and outages.Assists with the creation of executive level reports on applications and network performance.Performs knowledge transfer session with other Division of Technology teams as needed.Plans and requests assistance from other resources to complete network projects.Works and coordinates with other departments and staff as part of a cross-functional project team.Provides support, and recommendations for identified issues, projects, and initiatives.Creates and maintains easy to understand network documentation for Help Desk users.Safety
Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Supervisory Responsibilities

Knowledge of WAN technologies, LAN technologies, wireless access points, and bridging.Knowledge of TCP / IP protocol suite including, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, POP, SMTP, FTP, LDAP, and so forth.Skill in preparing post installation system documentation.Skill in troubleshooting difficult issues that may require extensive research, as well as considering all aspects of an issue including hardware, software, network, security issues, and potential programming issues.Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.Ability to work in a team environment, including teams from other departments.Ability to exercise discretion regarding matters of a sensitive or confidential nature.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.Ability to self-evaluate regarding performance and professional growth.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work.Travel Requirements

Education : (See approved combinations of Education & Experience below) Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in a related field preferred.Certification / License : Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher certification preferred.Experience : 2-6 years’ experience in IT infrastructure required.Approved combinations :
