Position Purpose
Safety Officers assist with security functions throughout the District. The safety officer evaluates security of buildings, documents school bus accidents, surveys safe walking and bus routes, and responds to emergency incidents that occur throughout the District.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Safety Officer roles and responsibilities will vary based on specified assignment.
- Patrol buildings and perform security checks during and after school hours.
- Monitor surveillance cameras
- Direct and monitor visitors entering District facilities.
- Documents bus accidents and submits reports.
- Investigates complaints of possible hazardous walking routes to schools and bus stops.
- Evaluates safety of bus stop locations and recommends alternate locations.
- Evaluates safe driving conditions for bus routes during inclement weather.
- Supports the 24-hour Security Desk functions such as dispatching emergency services, monitoring cameras and investigating alarms.
- Patrols and monitors areas around campuses and bus stops to assist with overall safety concerns.
- Maintain a high degree of personal responsibility and dependency as this position may require the ability to work after normal business hours and respond 24-hours weekdays or weekends for emergencies.
Safety
Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Supervisory Responsibilities

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.Posture : Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing / pulling, and twisting.Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.Lifting : Frequent heavy lifting and carrying (10 to 50 pounds).Exerting : Occasional exerting 50 to pounds to move objects during an investigation, possibly carry a child, or possibly restrain a child or adult.Environment : Works 70% in the field and 30% in an office setting, including facilitating safety training in a classroom, outside, or on a bus; may require occasional irregular and / or prolonged hours.Attendance : Regular and punctual attendance is required for this position. Irregular hours and flexibility in working hours is required. This position may be required to work on days the district is closed.Mental Demands : Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; may respond to emergency situations, and remain or return to investigate; may require occasional irregular and / or prolonged hours.Minimum Required Qualifications
Education : Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required; Associate’s degree or higher from accredited college or university preferred.Certification / License : Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required; Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required;Experience : 3-5 years in security, public safety, or law enforcement required.Approved combinations : Education Experience
HS / GED / TxCHSE 5 years
Associate’s degree 3 years
Language : Bilingual (English / Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS
