JOB TITLE: Special Education Instructional Coach
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Special Services, Executive Director of Special Services

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY The Special Education Instructional Coach will assist teachers in developing, testing, and implementing research based instructional strategies that increase student achievement. This position is charged to use, analyze, and reflect on assessment data to improve teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS The Special Education Instructional Coach preferred to have completed a Master’s Degree in Education, a minimum of five years of successful special education teaching experience, extensive training and successful experience in effective specialized instruction, and in evaluating data to drive classroom instruction and interventions. The Special Education Instructional Coach shall be highly motivated, well organized, and have collaborative leadership skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers through presentation, modeling, collaboration and feedback
2. Demonstrates effective leadership skills, communication skills, organization skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills
3. Demonstrates positive professional relationships with district personnel, parents and community
4. Teach, model and facilitate research-based best practices:
a. Work with teachers to develop effective teaching strategies and tools to aid the instructional process
b. Work with teachers to develop effective classroom assessment strategies
c. Work with teachers on using assessment data to drive student/classroom instruction
5. Work with curriculum coordinators, teachers, and building leadership to design and provide professional development focused on improving alignment and delivery of specialized instruction to increase student success and close performance gaps:
a. Working closely with curriculum coordinators to ensure all curriculum and related instructional practices are implemented with fidelity;
b. Work closely with building leadership to identify achievement goals and develop an individualized plan to address performance/achievement gaps
c. Coaching sessions / study groups;
d. Demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussions/analysis
e. Work with administrators, special education teachers and teacher teams to plan curriculum implementation and ensure that students are on pace within their personalized curricular pathway and IEP.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
1. Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
2. All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services or Executive Director of Special Services.
MENTAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and have strong attention to detail. The Special Education Instructional Coach must also have the ability to define problems, collect data, verify facts, make valid conclusions, and deal with abstract concepts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and present. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods is required. Travel throughout and outside of the district will be required. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT The Special Education Instructional Coach will be appointed for a period not to exceed one year and will be directly responsible to the Superintendent or his/her designee. The Special Education Instructional Coach will be a certified special education teacher. Calendar will be consistent with the Teacher Work Calendar. Additional days will be added as deemed necessary to perform his/her job responsibilities
EVALUATION Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy of professional staff personnel.
