Position Summary: The Quality Control Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of quality across all stages of the manufacturing process. This position is responsible for conducting thorough inspections of incoming components, in-process products, and finished goods to verify compliance with established specifications and standards. The Quality Control Inspector will maintain detailed records, report discrepancies, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the quality department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Incoming Inspection: Perform meticulous inspection of incoming components and materials to ensure they meet the specified requirements. Document and report any non-conforming items or rejected materials in the quality database, initiating corrective actions as necessary.
- First Article Inspection: Conduct first article inspections on new or modified products, verifying that they meet design specifications and quality standards before production begins.
- In-Process and Final Inspection: Perform detailed in-process inspections during manufacturing and final inspections of finished products, including LCD displays, touch screens, and embedded computers, to ensure compliance with all relevant standards and customer requirements.
- Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document inspection results, including detailed quality inspection reports for each order. Maintain organized records of all quality-related correspondence, ensuring easy retrieval and reference.
- Continuous Improvement: Suggest and implement new testing or inspection methods to streamline quality control processes and reduce the inspection efforts required without compromising quality.
- Training and Development: Provide training to co-workers and new employees on quality control concepts, inspection techniques, and company-specific quality standards as requested by management.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest quality control practices, tools, and trends by participating in relevant seminars, conferences, and trade shows. Apply new knowledge to improve inspection processes and product quality.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that all inspection tools and equipment, such as calipers, microscopes, and power supplies, are properly maintained and calibrated. Report any equipment malfunctions or calibration issues to the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager to support the overall goals of the quality department.
Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical specifications.
- Skilled in using precision inspection tools, including calipers, microscopes, and power supplies.
- Must have excellent vision and attention to detail, capable of detecting defects as small as 0.3mm or 0.01 inches.
Software Proficiency:
- Competent in using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word, for documentation and reporting purposes.
Communication:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly document findings and interact effectively with team members and management.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in quality control, particularly within the electronics manufacturing industry, is a plus.
Work Environment:
- The role is primarily based in our Ronkonkoma, NY facility, with occasional requirements to attend off-site training or events.
- The position may involve standing for extended periods and working in a production environment where attention to detail is critical.
