Position Description:

The Dean of Nursing is responsible for providing leadership in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing program, faculty hiring, and community relations with clinical agencies. The person in this role must facilitate responsiveness by the program, to the needs of the community and the health care system, as well as, foster within the program, an organizational culture that supports collegiality, personal well-being, and professional development of students, faculty, and staff. The Dean also serves as the representative of the program to the College/Campus administration, regulatory and accreditation bodies, the local advisory committee, and to other internal and external constituencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide creative leadership for the School of Nursing, motivate and support the development of the faculty as teachers and expert professionals.
  • Foster the development and maintenance of educational programs of high quality and professional relevance that are supportive of the mission and goals of the campus.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with Education Affiliates’ colleagues including Directors of Nursing at other campuses, Directors of Education, Campus Presidents, Regional Vice Presidents and the Vice President of Nursing
  • Assist faculty in developing effective, efficient teaching strategies; orient new faculty to teaching role; assist adjunct instructors in the preparation of course materials, tests and related materials.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of faculty and staff within EA guidelines; maintain system for assuring current credentials for nursing faculty.
  • Assist in the implementation of faculty development courses, programs and conferences in cooperation with faculty development professionals.
  • Develop and implement the systematic plan of evaluation for the nursing programs.
  • Interpret trends in nursing, nursing education, and health care. Advise the Regional Dean of Nursing and Vice President of Nursing on affairs relating to the operation of nursing programs.
  • Provide leadership to insure the implementation of an evidence-based curriculum, state of the art instruction, including the integration of simulation and other enhanced learning technologies and assessment methodologies.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement long-range academic objectives within the framework of the over-all strategic plan of the campus. Coordinate curricular innovation and revision by the faculty; keep abreast of changes and trends in the academic area; evaluate and inform the Regional Dean of Nursing and Vice President of Nursing of necessary changes in courses and curriculum.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining current student policies; provide guidance in evaluating and updating documents, coordinate and maintain student records, including current demographic and health records of nursing students.
  • Maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with agencies used for clinical learning experiences.
  • Coordinate communication with, and regular meetings of, the Nursing Advisory Board.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including national and regional professional organizations, Education-Affiliates’ sponsored seminars and training activities, monthly nursing program reviews, and EA semi-annual national nursing meetings.
  • Perform other professional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Current active unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse or APRN in the state of Florida or multistate privilege to practice nursing in state.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (Doctoral degree in nursing or a health-related major is preferred)
  • At least five years practice experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least two as a faculty member in a professional nursing education program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year successful of experience in an administrative or management role.
  • Competency in personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to serve as a positive, supportive, and enthusiastic role model.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check, drug screening, appropriate immunizations and CPR and HIPAA certification.
