What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Mechanic position at Fortis Energy Services, Inc.?
POSITION SUMMARY:
A successful Mechanic will be highly skilled working on heavy diesel engines to effectively service all equipment including but not limited to: service rigs, snubbing units and other ancillary equipment. This is primary a field position and you will be in the field majority of the time. An outstanding track record of success in the full lifecycle of the oil and gas industry as a mechanic in maintenance, repairs, safety, and welding will be the key to success. Below is a general list of duties but other duties within the scope of the job may be assigned.
Maintenance
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance on all equipment
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and diagnoses problems by sight and sound to resolve issues
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
- Test, adjust and repair equipment to be operational
- Perform required repairs based on troubleshooting mechanical equipment
- Perform routine and complex scheduled maintenance or repair work including exchanging engines and transmissions
- Coordinate with Management on the maintenance, repair and refurbishment of equipment
- Anticipate potential equipment malfunctions of failures and preforms required repairs, adjustments or modification to resolve the problem
- Foresee potential equipment malfunctions of failures and preforms required repairs, adjustments or modification to resolve the problem
- Respond to emergencies as requested and coordinates onsite activities to utilize resources to facilitate repairs in the most expedient and cost-effective manner
Repairs
- Operate drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
- Repair or replaces defective parts
- Repair basic 12V electrical equipment
Safety
- Comply all with HSE policies and procedures during work
- Ensure full awareness of (and compliance with) requirements of relevant company/customer HSE handbooks, HSE procedures, and emergency procedures
Welding
- Weld fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble or repair structural forms such as machinery frames, skids, tanks
- Lubricate and clean parts
- Request parts and machines to be ordered as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with service rigs and ancillary equipment preferred
- Ability to read and understand material commonly used in the product, service, and maintenance function
- Hands-on experience with various heavy-duty engines including; Cat, Detroit Diesel, Cummins
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems
- Must possess basic math skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Basic computer skills utilizing various programs in Microsoft Office Suite; must possess ability to learn company or industry specific applications.
- Must be able to occasionally work extended hours, including weekends, as needed.
- Welding experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Displays willingness to make decisions; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.

- Familiar with tools and equipment utilized by Fortis Energy Services.

- Willing to travel to customer sites to repair equipment on-site, travel out of town as required.
