Empirical focuses on supplying premium, quality, and custom-configured products to the Life Science industry for both research and commercial applications.
Fortis is currently looking for a Business Development Manager to cover the Molecular Diagnostics Portfolio for North America. This role will act as the primary point of contact for key accounts and new business development accounts supporting Empirical Bioscience and IPOC product portfolios. Responsibility would be to sell catalogue products and custom development services for the life sciences customer base.

Primary Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for key accounts and new business development accounts within the Molecular Diagnostics Business Unit (USA & Canada).
- Building new business development opportunities and relationships within the respective territory to expand product sales within the Fortis Molecular Diagnostics portfolio.
- To sell (in bulk) catalogue products, custom mastermix, custom enzyme and custom assay development services to the RUO, IVD, OEM and white-label customer base within the Fortis genomics portfolio.
- Note: products are produced under RUO or cGMP/ISO13485 certification therefore can be sold into clinical and IVD markets.
- Examples of the Fortis genomics portfolio include (but are not limited to) enzymes and reagents for PCR/qPCR, isothermal amplification, LAMP, reverse transcription, NGS library preparation, supporting master mix components (RNase-inhibitor, Proteinase K, CRISPR, cloning solutions and full-kitted solutions for qPCR or NGS.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate customer product and instrument platform need to Fortis Field application specialist and R&D team.
- Require the ability to support a “sample evaluation” workflow between customer and internal R&D team for all custom product evaluations.
- Responsibility to communicate direct product need and custom assay development need as a project manager from customer to internal team to move projects forward using a structured process with multiple pro-actively scheduled touchpoints.
- Set customer guidelines and expectations on product sample evaluations timelines to ensure in-quarter forecasting when available.
- Understand unique market needs to build strategic action items that will expand company influence and expand product sales within the Fortis genomics portfolio.
- Work with the Fortis field application scientist (FAS) team to co-coordinate application support to customers.
- Report weekly and quarterly sales results and forecasts during quarterly business reviews.
- Use customer database to research account and sales history that will drive revenue growth in net new customer base and expansion within existing accounts.
- Create customer quotes for direct product and customized orders.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Fortis management team, which may not be listed above, that are necessary to accomplish our goal of improving lives by supporting scientific discovery.
- Biology degree or science-related industry background.
- Proven track record of 4-5 years of experience in sales in the life science industry with technical knowledge in the genomics research and customized OEM space.
- Track-record of being self-driven to accomplish sales goals in team setting.
- Previous CRM experience (Sales Force).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suits
