Description
As the Material Handler you are responsible for staging roll stock, cores, and boxes for all press and finishing operations. Additional responsibilities include electronically and physically receiving and putting away deliveries and returned rolls from the press and organizing materials throughout the facility. Additional duties may also be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review daily schedule for specific stock products needed at each press. Throughout the work day, perform regular walk through of production area to determine schedule progress and job material needs.
- For each job, utilize fork lift, pallet jack, or other means to retrieve required roll stock from shelves and take to the correct press or press staging area.
- Stage finishing section with pallets, cores, and boxes as needed throughout the day.
- Coordinate with Press Operators and Production Manager regarding any immediate needs for paper or supplies. Quickly and efficiently respond to any and all requests for paper, cores, or boxes outside of the standard walk through times.
- Receive roll stock, core, box deliveries and any other necessary materials, accurately confirming items and quantities on packing slips or other relevant documentation and accurately recording receipt information into the company software system (as applicable).
- Using forklift, cherry picker, and/or reach truck, place stock in the correct storage location, assuring accuracy of the quantity and location.
- Retrieve returned rolls from presses and ensure returns are labeled, re-entered into inventory in the computer system, and put back in the correct place in the warehouse.
- Retrieve trash dumpsters from the production area and dispose of them in the outside dumpsters or compactor (as needed).
- Perform job duties safely, following all Fortis Solutions Group, LLC rules and procedures and manufacturer recommendations for equipment operation. This includes performing daily forklift inspections prior to operating the vehicle.
- Perform monthly and quarterly physical inventory counts.
- Maintain the warehouse area in an organized and safe fashion. Perform routine clean-up and organization as necessary.
- Cross train in other areas of the warehouse operations and shipping as necessary.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year similar warehouse, material handling experience.
- Forklift certification required (or ability to obtain forklift certification shortly after starting work in the role).
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills to learn the companys software program for receiving and roll return.
- Good written and interpersonal communication skills to work as part of a team and communicate with the production staff.
- Ability to prioritize.
- Be proactive and capable of solving problems.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Able to safely and effectively operate forklift, cherry picker, and reach truck. Able to be certified in safe operation.
- Able to be cross-trained in other areas of the warehouse as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Training Requirements:
- Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Requires constant lifting, standing, crouching, and repetitive tasks.
- Requires use of hands to safely and properly operate forklift, cherry picker, reach truck, and pallet jacks.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. for short durations. Must be able to frequently lift 50 lbs on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.
Work Environment:
- Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Safety toe shoes and eye protection are highly recommended.
Safety harness is required when using forklift or cherry picker above ground level.
