Overview:
The Supervisor, Mechanical Engineering, will focus on the development and management of an internal team within the Mechanical Engineering group. They will create an inspiring collaborative team environment with an open communication culture, set clear team goals, delegate tasks, and coach/mentor Associates to successfully deliver controls engineering projects. This position will provide leadership and development for our FORTNA Associates of varying levels of experience and focus on the management of the group’s resource planning and project execution across all delivery projects. This role will support promoting and developing the approach and methodologies for the delivery of projects from the initial lead up to the implementation. As a management position, the technical function of this position is to be responsible for directing the design and documentation of controls deliverables, implementing projects, and providing inputs to the development of the Mechanical Engineering packages.

When duties are performed in a typical office environment, extended periods of sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen will be required. Also required is the ability to talk and hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands to handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; and ability to reach with hands and arms. Associates are frequently required to walk and stand. The noise level in this work environment is usually quiet. When travelling to Client sites, essential requirements of this position may require physical presence in various environments and locations. - Assist and or create a vision of the team in alignment with FORTNA’s vision and goals.
- Organizing and conducting training of team members to maximize their potential.
- Ensure development of Associates using regular feedback, quarterly performance reviews, and by maintaining a skills matrix.
- Creating a pleasant working environment that inspires the team and takes care of the health, safety, and welfare of Associates.
- Motivating the team to create commitment and to achieve organizational goals.
- Ensures a strong and robust communication process and resolves conflicts.
- Organize team initiatives by leading team meetings, leading 1:1, and continuously work on team engagement.
- Involved in the hiring of new talents.
- Management
- Oversee multiple projects in Mechanical Engineering
- Assess and review FORTNA’s current processes and tools within the team and adapt to industry standards and make recommendations and suggestions to improve and streamline the implementation process.
- Leading generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Mechanical Engineering group.
- Constantly working to expand knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technology for the whole team.
- Assist department directives and follow KPIs representing the success of the team
- Resource planning for the team
- Facilitating and supporting Project Engineers during the project transition from Ops Design through to Solution Development.
- Facilitating and supporting Project Engineers while engaged in Solution Development efforts.
- Leading and supporting Project Engineers for multiple projects through the Integrated Detail Design. This will include RFP/Supplier Selection, detailed mechanical design, preparing POR’s for MHE and S&S equipment, development of installation drawing packages, and support of installation contractor, Project Manager, and Site Manager with installation efforts.
- Facilitating and supporting Project Engineers during project meetings as required by project cadence
- Producing meeting agendas
- Providing meeting minutes to team members
- Facilitating and supporting Project Engineers to update project team on the current status of project:
- Compiling project status reports
- Attending project update meetings
- Maintaining and tracking project schedules to ensure all interdepartmental deliverables are provided
- Facilitating and supporting Project Engineers maintaining and tracking project budgets, providing PM and management team with insight into the past and visibility of possible budget variances during the execution phase.
- Attending Customer meetings as required.
- Facilitating and supporting PFSD development.
- Provide support and direction with Description of Operations (DOO).
- Facilitating and supporting Project Engineers for conducting site visits to determine and validate field dimensions.
- Following and providing input for improvement of Drawing Quality Control (DQC) process.
- Continuously working to solve Customer needs.
- Ability to work in a virtual environment
- Proactively seeking work to maintain project and departmental utilization.
- 4-year engineering degree from an accredited college with 4-7 years of relevant experience, or 2 year degree from an accredited college with 6 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 10 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of and ability to work with and manage multiple suppliers
- Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance
- Strong management and advanced collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication)
- Extensive experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for position
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD with at least 5 years’ practical experience
- Flexible and approachable
