Medical Supply Technician

We are seeking dedicated Medical Supply Technicians (Sterile Processing) for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role involves providing comprehensive sterile processing services at two VA locations:

• Cheyenne VAMC - 2360 EAST PERSHING BLVD. CHEYENNE, WY 82001
• Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic - 4575 BYRD DR., LOVELAND, CO 80538
  
  

The Medical Supply Technician will be responsible for the onsite decontamination, inspection, assembly, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment to various surgical and specialty clinics. The role requires adherence to nationally recognized sterilization and processing standards, ensuring a high level of patient safety and quality care.

WORKSITE: Cheyenne VAMC and Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week.

COMPENSATION: 22.00 -24.00 per hour

What You'll Do

• Perform onsite decontamination, inspection, assembly, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and equipment.
• Receive contaminated instruments from various clinics and inspect items for damage and operational functionality.
• Determine appropriate decontamination and cleaning methods per Instructions for Use (IFU) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Assemble, sterilize, and distribute instrument sets, including complex and delicate micro-surgical tools.
• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including steam sterilizers, hydrogen peroxide gas plasma, and high-level disinfectors.
• Conduct bacteriological tests for quality assurance of sterilization processes.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of sterile materials using best sterile processing practices.
• Train and assist medical personnel in sterile supply techniques and procedures.
• Maintain compliance with VA, Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), FDA, CDC, and Joint Commission standards.
  
  

What You'll Bring

Education & Certifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification in Sterile Processing preferred.
  
  

Experience

• Up-to-date knowledge of surgical instruments used in operating rooms and clinics.
• Experience with event-related packaging regarding sterility.
• Knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment.
• Familiarity with universal precautions for safety and infection control.
• Basic medical terminology and microbiology principles as they apply to sterile processing.
• Understanding of anatomy and physiology to assist in selecting appropriate instrument substitutions.
