We are seeking experienced Phlebotomists (PB) for the VA Maine Healthcare System. This role involves performing patient phlebotomy services across various settings, including inpatient ward rounds, outpatient services, the Emergency Department (ED), and STAT or timed draws. You will also be responsible for sample processing, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining high-quality standards in all procedures. This position requires three (3) years of recent Phlebotomy experience and a commitment to professionally providing patient-centered care. This is a six-month contract.

WORK SCHEDULE: Various shifts are available, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees may be required to work overtime, but on-call or standby duties are not required.
COMPENSATION: $25.00 -$27.00 per hour

- Perform patient phlebotomy services, including inpatient and outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, ASAP, and timed draws.
- Conduct sample processing and send-out preparation.
- Positively identify patients before sample collection and verify samples before testing or aliquoting to ensure safety.
- Safeguard both electronic and paper patient information.
- Independently test, evaluate, document, and report patient testing and Quality Control (QC).
- Identify, document, and resolve any collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues.
- Ensure patient-centered care and provide professional service to avoid complaints from all stakeholders and customers.
Education & Certifications:
- Certification in Phlebotomy is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent Phlebotomy experience.
- Technical proficiency in performing phlebotomy procedures and maintaining quality control.
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to patient safety protocols.
- Effective communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of universal precautions for infection control and cross-contamination prevention.
