Summary of Position :
The position of Transportation Manager will plan and coordinate our daily product shipments, have knowledge of supply management and an understanding of warehouse procedures including but not limited to; storing goods, dispatching orders, tracking transportation vehicles (Descartes), hiring staff and being familiar with safety processes and legal regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Maintain a distribution system to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of food products in a fast-paced and temperature, maintained environment. Ensure minimal waste is maintained throughout the life cycle of the product.
- Manage route optimization and vehicle tracking (Descartes / Samsara) to limit distribution costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Leverage software tools as appropriate.
- Schedule drivers (daily and weekly routes).
- Communicate Route changes with drivers and sales.
- Monitor actual driver punch times compared to driver scheduled times.
- ADP - Monitor overtime and approve all weekly timecards.
- Ensure drivers and vehicles are DOT compliant.
- Monitor ELD's and check DVIR's, Violations, and unassigned HOS.
- Maintain the entire fleet of vehicles.
- Report maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain truck maintenance logs.
- Keep organized records of vehicles, schedules and completed orders.
- Assemble and report data for accident and insurance investigations.
- Communicate with other departments on questions of delivery times and pickups.
- Manage all transportation expenses to established targets.
- Strategically align department goals to company's mission by creating appropriate measurement tools.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement programs to eliminate inefficiency in the full cycle distribution process.
- Recommend policy, staffing and equipment recommendations to the Operations Manager.
- Ensure that drivers are properly trained on departmental policies and procedures.
- Coach drivers through clear communication on performance expectations and daily goals.
- Lead Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) initiates to minimize operational risks.
- Maintain strong relationships and communication links with all departments to facilitate an effective and positive work environment.
- Among other tasks assigned.
