Title: Development and Communications Assistant

Status: Full-Time; Regular; Non-Exempt
Salary: $27.48 per hour (approximately $50,000 annually)
Location: Long Island City, Queens, NY
Days/Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm, subject to change based on program needs
Position Summary:
The Development Assistant will report directly to the Senior Director, Individual Giving. The Development Assistant will have primary responsibility for maintaining the agencys fundraising database (The Raisers Edge) and serve as the point person for the agencys and departments file sharing system, SharePoint. They will support the entire departments administrative needs. They must have a strong passion for the work of The Fortune Society, a nationally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to supporting successful re-entry from prison and promoting alternatives to incarceration. A positive, collaborative work style and comfort in a multi-cultural, multi-generational environment is extremely important.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead user of our donor database, The Raisers Edge;
- Process individual contributions and produce batch reports in close coordination with our Finance team;
- Produce acknowledgement letters for all donations;
- Continually update and amend database records, with an eye toward quality control;
- Produce standard and complex reports and mailing lists;
- Maintain individual donor files;
- Provide administrative support for the entire department, including monitoring the Vice Presidents email, scheduling meetings for the department and handling all check and credit card request forms.
- Serve as the point person for the maintenance of the departments file sharing software, SharePoint. This includes ensuring all documents are saved in the appropriate SharePoint folder and continually updating and improving the departments SharePoint folders.
- Conduct research on prospects (individual and foundation) and current donors. Prepare donor profiles;
- Assist with coordination of fundraising and cultivation events as needed;
- Assemble donor packets for events and meetings;
- Board committee and staff meeting notes; and
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- BA preferred and/or equivalent life experience;
- Database experience preferred;
- Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with colleagues, interns and volunteers;
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, and to manage time effectively in a fast-paced, high-energy environment;
- Ability to be a strong team player and willingness to work as part of a diverse team with shared responsibility and accountability;
- Knowledge of essential computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong desire to support the work of The Fortune Society;

Travel Requirements: May require travel to our Harlem site along with some city-wide donor meetings, presentations, and events.
