Title: Nutrition Educator
Unit: Food and Nutrition
Reports to: Senior Director of Food and Nutrition
Status: Full Time; Regular; Non-Exempt
Salary: $30.22 to $35.72 (approximately $55,000 - $65,000 annually)
Location: Varies
Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Position Summary:
Fortune’s Food and Nutrition department is seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual with a passion for nutrition education and outreach. The ideal candidate would be a bilingual, English and Spanish-speaking, Registered Dietitian (RD). Entry-Level or RD exam eligible candidates are welcome to apply. Execution of multiple nutrition education workshops at our agency locations, health and wellness promotion across the agency and neighboring communities, and coordination of our weekly produce distribution are a few of the responsibilities under the Nutrition Educator’s purview.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement nutrition education programs tailored to the unique needs of formerly incarcerated individuals, low-income communities, and persons of color.
- Capture reporting data for all deliverables and outcomes
- Manage program budget and resource allocation
- Utilize USDA, SNAP-Ed, etc. nutrition materials and curriculum as required by funders
- Build trust and rapport with diverse groups, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Provide practical nutrition advice, cooking tips, shopping and budgeting strategies, and meal planning knowledge to empower individuals to make healthier food and lifestyle choices.
- Develop, promote, and market health and wellness campaigns for the agency and neighboring communities
- Create educational materials such as pamphlets, recipes, and visual aids in both English and Spanish.
- Leverage technology to empower individuals with practical nutrition advice, meal planning strategies, and cooking skills.
- Create and share print and digital resources, including recipes, infographics, and video content.
- Support the development of accessible resources that address the specific needs of diverse populations.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in nutrition education, respecting and incorporating diverse culinary traditions.
- Adapt educational materials and approaches to resonate with the cultural backgrounds of the communities served.
- Coordinate weekly produce distribution including managing participants via Plentiful App and assigning duties to volunteers
- Seek and promote opportunities to conduct nutrition workshops across the agency
- Collaborate with culinary team to produce nutritious food
- Collaborate with colleagues across the agency to develop innovative, robust nutrition education workshops, seminars, and one-on-one counseling sessions
- Provide one-on-one nutritional counseling as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and objectives of the organization
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field required. Master’s degree in Nutrition preferred.
- Entry-level Registered Dietitian (RD) or eligibility for RD examination. RD exam must be passed within 90 days of hire.
- NYC Food Handlers required within 30 days of hire
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to connect with diverse audiences.
- Passion for working with formerly incarcerated individuals, low-income communities, and persons of color.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in community nutrition or public health education.
- Program management skills- strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Familiarity with social justice and equity initiatives in the nutrition field.
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development.
- Enthusiastic about using technology to enhance nutrition education
- Experience with health promotions and cooking demonstrations
- Teaching kitchen approach to instruction

Travel Requirements: Travel is required to conduct nutrition workshops at our various locations across the 5 boroughs
