Job Summary :

Reporting to the EVP of Development & Construction, the Director of Development is responsible for developing networks of electric charging depots as a key member of a team charged with the strategy, development and execution of Forum’s electric charging pipeline. The Director will lead the development of a portfolio of projects, manage project teams, oversee project schedules and budgets, and work with diverse stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time and under budget. The Director will work with the Origination, Engineering, and Project Finance teams across the full project lifecycle required to bring projects to successful commercial operation.

Candidates must have prior professional real estate or energy project development experience with familiarity across project siting, land and real estate, regulatory and environmental permitting, and utility load capacity / interconnection, ideally with responsibility over projects from inception through commercial operations. We are creating a new asset class; successful candidates will have a passion for learning new markets and flexible problem solving.

Principal Responsibilities & Key Results :

  • Manage the full development life cycle of charging depots from initial siting, diligence, title clearing, permitting, design, interconnection, financing through to construction.
  • Lead interconnection process, land acquisitions, project permitting, and applications.
  • Track project risks throughout the development cycle, provide risk assessments, and suggest mitigations to management.
  • Identify and target greenfield sites and acquisition targets for charging depot opportunities by leading customer-focused, data-driven, multi-dimensional analysis incorporating input from cross-functional team members.
  • Identify, propose, and implement creative or alternative project development approaches that reduce exposure to permitting risks, optimize development schedules or create additional project value.
  • Manage consultants and development service agreements with local / regional development partners; oversee a network of local project stakeholders (e.g., technical consultants, surveyors, land-persons etc.), and negotiate terms for vendors and consultants who participate in the development process.
  • Create and maintain project budgets and schedules to ensure projects are developed on time and within budget. Meticulous ownership of project level details.
  • Support and manage junior team members to increase the overall team’s skillset and collaborative culture.
  • Utilize and embrace project financial model tools to make sound project decisions, assess new development strategies, and improve the project risk / return profiles.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, with relevant commercial development or renewable energy development required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with all facets of land development : landowner engagement and negotiation / contracting, title resolution, subdivision, land (ALTA) surveys, GIS and other real estate elements.
  • Experience with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) engagements and must have successfully developed at least three or more projects to commercial operations.
  • Experience managing project schedules and project budgets, as well as understanding of key project value levers (commercial, financial, etc.).
  • Candidates must have a fundamental understanding of development of infrastructure or renewable energy projects and project lifecycle.
  • Superior project management skills and acute attention to detail required.
  • Exceptional organization, professional communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter with strong knowledge of business fundamentals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience interacting as both an individual and a team contributor.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to successfully communicate in all situations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage simultaneous projects / work streams, set priorities, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Enjoy the diverse problem solving and uncertainty that developing projects requires.
  • Travel :
