High School English Teachers for Upward Bound Summer Program
What is Upward Bound:
Upward Bound serves high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and/or from families who meet federal income guidelines. The goal of UB is to help students recognize and develop their potential and to encourage them to pursue post-secondary degrees.
Where:
- This will be an opportunity to teach on campus at UW Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin
When:
- Training and orientation will be determined at a later date
- Classes will be on the following days:
- Thursday, June 19th
- Friday, June 20th
- Monday June 23rd
- Tuesday, June 24th
- Thursday, July 10th
- Friday, July 11th
- Monday, July 14th
- Tuesday July 15th
Compensation: $1100 (split into two payments)
What you get to do:
- Teach two sections of the same course for 8 days (90 minutes each section)
- Develop a hands-on curriculum focusing on key concepts designed around the summer’s theme
- Prepare pre- and post- test to determine student improvement
- Submit a brief synopsis of three ideas for classes you would like to teach
- Upward Bound staff will select one course for you to teach
- Submit syllabus for the selected course for review and approval by the Upward Bound Managers
- Syllabus for selected course is due in May
- Attend teacher orientation and wrap up
- Communicate student progress
- Submit pre and post test scores and final grades
Teacher Hours:
Class time hours: 24 hours
Prep hours: 12 hours
Orientation, Meetings & Reporting: 4 hours
Total hours: 40 hours
Qualifications:

- Licensed teacher for 9th – 12th grade in given field and at least 1 year teaching experience preferred
- All offers will be contingent on a successful criminal background check
- Must live and work in Wisconsin
