What is Upward Bound:
Upward Bound serves high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and/or from families who meet federal income guidelines. The goal of UB is to help students recognize and develop their potential and to encourage them to pursue post-secondary degrees. Our goal of summer programming is to incorporate learning in a fun and creative way.
Where:
- This will be an opportunity to teach on campus at UW Parkside in Kenosha, WI.
When:
- Training and orientation will be determined for a later date.
- Classes will run:
- Week 1: Monday, June 16th, 2025 – Friday, June 20th, 2025
- Week 2: Monday, June 23rd, 2025 – Friday, June 27th, 2025

- Classes, labs, and/or field trips will be held between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (end times may be earlier with planned cultural outings).
What Subjects Are Available to Teach:
- Math
- A World Language
What you get to do:
- Teach for 2 weeks (M-F) – We travel home on Fridays.
- Develop a curriculum focusing on key concepts designed around the summer’s theme: (Youth Overcoming Life’s Obstacles – YOLO 2025)
- Develop hands-on activities and outings.
- Please prepare three ideas for lessons you would like to teach including any outings in the Kenosha/Milwaukee area and be ready to discuss them during your interview.
- You will collaborate with current Upward Bound Madison staff to create your classes.
- Ideally, we would like to hire a candidate that can teach both math and a world language, but we will look at two individuals if necessary.
- Submit a syllabus by June 1, 2025.
- Attend teacher orientation.
- Communicate and give feedback to students.
- Submit final grades to staff.
- Be a positive role model for our Upward Bound scholars!
Teacher Hours:
Class Time Hours: 20 for Language and 20 for Math
Prep Hours: 50
Orientation, Meetings & Reporting:10 Hours
Total hours: 100 Hours
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The job requirements include:
- Licensed teacher for 9th – 12th grade in given field and at least 1 year teaching experience preferred.
- All offers will be contingent on a successful criminal background check.
- Must live and work in Wisconsin.
