A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PAVEMENT MARKING LABORER

As a Pavement Marking Laborer, you will be essential in executing pavement marking tasks across various road construction environments. Your duties include lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading materials like pavement marking materials, signs, barricades, and barrels. You will prepare and clean work areas before and after pavement markings are applied to ensure safety and organization on the job site.

Additionally, you will assist with installing, repairing, and maintaining various pavement markings, including epoxy striping, thermoplastic, MMA, and permanent tape. You will also operate hand grinders to remove old markings and interpret engineering plans related to pavement marking procedures. Working closely with your supervisor, you'll help layout roadways for marking and ensure the proper procedures are followed for timely project completion.

In addition to these tasks, you will help maintain equipment and vehicles by cleaning and ensuring they are in good working order. You may also be required to transport materials and equipment to and from job sites as needed. Keeping accurate job logs and returning them to your supervisor daily will be essential to ensure all tasks are completed on schedule. Communication with your supervisor is key to ensuring proper project progress and adherence to company policies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

To succeed in this role, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. You will need to obtain a Class B CDL license within 12 months of employment, including any necessary Hazmat and Tanker endorsements, while maintaining a clean driving record. The position requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively and perform physical tasks such as reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and twisting. Comfort with working outdoors in extreme weather conditions is essential, as is the ability to walk long distances and drive for extended periods.

Flexibility is crucial, as the role requires working varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and travel for extended periods. You must also be comfortable working in a potentially hazardous environment near traffic. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team are important. You should be able to read and write clearly and legibly.
