Position: Manager, Collections
Job Description:
The Manager, Collections is responsible for managing all accounts receivable customer accounts and credit and collections personnel. This position determines risk by numerous means and establishes new accounts and credit limits.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage Credit & Collections staff and day to day operations of the collections department
- Establish Credit and Collections policies and procedures with input from the Director of Accounts Receivable
- Analyze credit and minimize exposure for high risk customers
- Administer and enforce policies and procedures within the collections department
- Work in conjunction with Collections Supervisor, to mentor collectors how to take proper action on specific accounts
- Analyze weekly or monthly reports to ensure goals are met and guidelines are adhered to
- Resolve customers issues escalated from the collectors or supervisor as needed
- Communicate with internal customers such as sales and operations to resolve collections issues
- Escalate issues to the Director of Accounts Receivable
- Manage special projects as directed by the Director of Accounts Receivable
- Work with Manager of Billing to correct rating or billing issues identified during the collections process
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor degree and 3-5 years’ experience in the field of business, finance or similar
- Working knowledge of how to identify risk for the company
- Ability to acquire working knowledge of trucking industry
- Ability to acquire working knowledge of company practices, methods and resources made available
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, internal and external customers
- Computer comprehension, including knowledge of Excel, word and e-mail functions
- Possess strong organization and analytical skills
- Ability to cross train within the department
- Self-motivated, problem solver
Skills:
- Ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic
- Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with AS400 operating systems is a plus
- Transportation industry knowledge and experience is a plus
